You can't say Nintendo will topple without any proof. For all we know they could still be arrogant...but just be as arrogant as they are now (ie. not arrogant enough for them to topple over again). Do you really believe Nintendo will make the same mistake twice? As long as they continue making the games they're making now (to appeal to the casual and core gamers) and getting a high enough userbase for third parties to quality games on it, I don't see them toppling again in the near future. |
Do I think Nintendo will make the same mistake twice? No, they're going to be making a different mistake with the same underlying problem that leads to downfall for all companies. This isn't Anti-Nintendo, and I fully believe that Sony (this generation) was terribly arrogant and it clearly led to their demise. Hell, Nintendo could easily make the same mistake twice if another company can't even learn from past examples.
Remember, Sony had an unbelievably popular system on their hands with the Playstation, and the Playstation 2 made their legacy even stronger. Seriously, look at an old American chart from 2005 or before, and notice something. Sony had unbelievable dominance in America with the PS2, with the GBA acting as only a mild competitor hardware wise and a non-existant competitor software wise (lower software sales, plus the PS2 grabbed demographics the GBA couldn't). And the rest of the world wasn't much different.
Hell, Sony was just about ready to crush the DS in PAL and America with the PSP, and the PS2 pretty much owned the world. And in only a couple short years, they're lying on their back and they control less than 40% of the market with 3 different systems. Sony looked just an invincible as Nintendo does now.
And Torillian makes a good point, but I don't agree with him entirely.
@Others: I didn't really say anything offensive besides Nintendo ignoring the requests of their consumers, and I'm just loosely quoting what Zenfoldor said (I'll give you $1,000Vg to convince me that Zenfoldor hates Nintendo). Zenfoldor basically made a thread (if memory serves) saying that Nintendo is so successful because they ignored what the GC and N64 audience wanted and went for what they believed the mass market wanted. However, this strategy could backfire in upcoming generations.
