What's so terrible about it...Is it just the controls? Or do the problems stem deeper?

I've just been recently looking for a decent co-op game (for cheap) for the PS3.

I might go with Army Of Two instead.

The story is shallow

the combat is shallow

the RPG elements are shallow

I never played it but those seem to be why the game is terrible

 

The same could be said for Dynasty Warriors.

However the awesome music, and hilarious voice-acting more than made up for it.

I'll probably give the game a rent, to see how terrible it really is.
