Back when Vivendi was trying to unload it, they wanted a cool billion for the entire business (Sierra, Blizzard et al)--they weren't intereted in selling it piece by piece, and certainly not in selling the crown jewel alone. This was also, of course, before WoW turned into an absolute world-devouring monster, and nobody thought the asking price was reasonable (hindsight being what it is, though...ouch).
