Before their last financial statement I was expecting another price cut this holiday, but then they said their target was profitibility, not market share. This just confirms that.
It seems to me that Sony just want to cut their previous losses with the PS3 and obtain profitibility as soon as possible.
This is Sony's CFO saying this to investors, not a response from someone at SCEE to rumours of a price cut. You have to take him at his word.
Even at $400 PS3 is selling pretty well now, after already cutting the price by $200 and still losing significant amounts on hardware it would be a strange business decision to cut prices again.
If 360 price cut seriously dents PS3 sales in the US expect them to add extra value; ie game bundles, a price cut for PS3 is really unlikely for this year. Last quarter they already said price elasticity of PS3 was not the same as PS2 and they can't drop the price anymore for now.
Take adantage of it, PS3 is probably the only piece of Sony hardware which isn't over-priced right now.
