| curl-6 said: The early to mid Switch 1 era was the peak, so like 2017-2019. Although I miss Iwata, it took a while for the early Directs to find their footing and there just wasn't much on the Wii U to showcase. The Switch 2 era directs so far have been weirdly bad, with poor pacing, too much filler, and a lack of showstoppers. Hopefully they manage to improve going forwards. |
Eh. While I’d say the late-Switch 1 Directs are my favorite, early-Switch 2 is a comfortable second for me. Revisiting those early-Switch 1 Directs, they really were a bit iffy. Sure all the third-party showcases and 3DS inclusions were exciting at the time, but definitely would not fly in a modern Direct. The standards just keep going higher.
My only issue with the Switch 2 Directs thus far is that we haven’t gotten an Echoes of Wisdom/Mario Wonder/Tears of the Kingdom-teir reveal. Ocarina and Ravenous could have been that had they, y’know, not been totally spoiled several months in advance lol.
