At this rate, we won't even be needing emulators for all that long. Give it two years, and every major game from all major platforms will have a native PC port. At the rate AI is developing, we might even get there next year.

I wonder how long the Switch 2's security and software encryption will hold out. That one is bound to stir some shit when it happens.

Is there even any particular software security games? I always thought games themselves had no notable amount of security and it was instead the platform had the security measures in place. But this is skipping the whole platform, so its security is irrelevant. I don't really know how it is, but that's how I thought it was (aside from the infamous Xbox One plans, of course).

While there are upsides to decomps, I fear emulation scene will suffer from it in long term, since there will be less incentive to build proper emulators that can run whole library (in theory) of said console vs selected decompiled game by game approach.

That said, maybe decomps actually help emulation scene by more quickly revealing underlying hardware?

I guess there's some concerns there, but achieving extensive software compatibility has always been a lot of work anyway, or at least for a really long time if not always. I think even PCSX2 is still having issues with some games, and possibly even emulators older than that! I think emulation and native PC versions will help each other, but it's unclear to which extent. All this could still end up being a net loss for emulators, or it could be a net win. Someone with more expertise in the field might be able to predict that better, but I can only guess.
