On average this might be true. But because the sheer population size (especially India), they still have a rather large amount of people that could afford it.

A quick google shows that neither the PS2 nor the PS5 reached even a million consoles sold. You are grossely over estimating the financial power to to console cost in India regardless of population. It's still massively a population in poverty without luxary spending power and long work hours even in it's middle classes.

The medium wage in India is still $250 a month. Even the Switch lite cost more than that. Looking further 90% of Indians earn less then that and the middle class in india starts at 500 dollars a month. You are severely over estimating what Indian earn, how many of them earn a decent wage that can buy western products, it's massive unequal. India has neither the middle class population nor culture. Rich Indians have it on the grey market or a Switch 2 brought from abroad.

The total sales in India of Sony's best selling console can not be used as a basis because India's economy has increased massively compared to its economy from 2000 (year released) to 2013 (year discontinued), and neither is the total sales of Sony's latest console because it is significantly more expensive than the Switch 1 line up. If Sony's current console managed to sell a million, expect Switch to sell the same number or may be even greater because it is obviously cheaper, meaning there are more Indians who can afford to buy Switch 1 compared to Sony's.
