Yet we've just been instead using AI to make that art and firing people and putting the workload on everyone else.

A perfect world indeed. However this world is declining to support all of us. I'd never trust an elite to be on the side of people who are in the way of their own health and now that they will soon have complete automation and even entertainment....argh, maybe I'm a cynic more than I knew. 

Unfortunately it is what capitalism encourages. It's an old repeating story. 

10 people process 20 bags per hour. 

A machine comes along that doubles everyone's efficiency. 

Ideally 10 people either make 40 bags per hour with double the pay, or only work half as much.

But what actually happens is 5 people get let go and the other 5 continue to make 20 bags per hour with the same wage.
