I think leaks put PS6's APU at 52-54CUs

Oh, well. There goes that idea.

That said, a 52CU GPU is rather big. That's 9070 non-XT class, and on RDNA5 on top of that. It should be quite powerful, and power hungry as well.

Well, the RX 6700 non-XT, which is basically the PS5 GPU, is a 175W GPU, while the RX 9070 is at 220W, so not that big of a difference.

Then add in the PS5 Pro, which is more similar to a 6800 or 7800XT, which are 250W and 263W respectively, so both draw more power than a 9070.

Now, make a theoretical mobile 9070 with 3nm process and you probably get down to below 150W of power draw, maybe even 120W, without losing much performance.

We have no idea how big the equivalent RDNA5 chip of a 9070 will be, as it will need to have a lot more die space reserved for the improved compute, nor how it will affect the power consumption.

Also, the jump from 4nm to 3nm is supposed to bring a 30% reduction in power consumption at the same speed, and we also ignore how fast the PS6 GPU will run.

There are too many variables.

The PS5 Pro has 60CU so I think it fits for a console chip it's to few CU for a flagship GPU and to many for a Steam Deck 2 so I don't know what else it could be other than a console APU.

I feel like it's gonna be 54CU.

PS4 had 18CU, PS Pro and PS5 had 36 each, twice as much as the PS4. Now, add up 36 + 18, and you get... 54CU!

In fact, I'm surprised the PS5 Pro didn't go with 54CU to begin with...

I wish things we so simple, but they rarely are.

It's been a long time coming. 343 had too much good will under Phil Spencer imo. It's insane that they couldn't even make a proper Halo 1 remake without adding stupid stuff like the girl-boss missions. It's time these studios got what they deserved and hopefully something better will come out of it.

Not entirely surprising, and some of those moves make sense after the previous decisions and layoffs, like merging Turn10 and Playground.

Moving Rare to Activision is strange after being in MSoft for so long.

Making a new studio for Halo kind of makes sense after so many f*ck ups, but I wonder if being under Activision will give it a bit of a CoD feel to it.

Bad luck for Ninja Theory. I hope they give the staff the option to join other MSoft/Activision studios.
