Koshima is obviously pissed. Sorry Sony no more Game of the Year prizes anytime soon from Jeff.

"also noteworthy that, since Kojima is no longer working with Sony, he's lost access to the Sony-exclusive Decima engine, raising further questions about the path forward. The game is high-concept, meant to blend film and games, and previously, Kojima was using Sony Pictures and the Sony-owned Columbia Pictures for that aspect. That's also not happening."  cormack12 neogaf.

This is the problem.  No access to the engine so needs to remake the game anew, in a different engine. No help with his planned movie tie in mix with game stuff.

Even if Kojima was still years away from a actual game, releasing.
Sony going "this is too much cost for too little in return for us", is kinda understandable.
So in business you talk with people.

If Kojima was not holding up his part of the deal, and refused to give sony something in return.... this happens.

Him getting help from Xbox is fine, it means the project can go on, even if it is basically just a remake of things anew.

The thing is, he has promised xbox to do OD first.
Which means, he owes them OD,.... and then Physint.

We are looking at a game that might release in 2035 or something.

I think Kojima should have offered Sony better terms or something, to keep staying there.
The hassle of all this, because of greed by both parties and Kojima being bad with progress and deadlines.... is sad.
The result is this game will take longer to release.

Saw this on neogaf too:

> Be Kojima
> Get in bed with Playstation
> Get the Decima engine for free, literally handed over to you in a PR video
> Playstation gives you carte blanche to make what you want
> Make two artsy fartsy pseudo-intellectual philosophical games that cost a fortune and barely (if at all) made a reasonable profit
> Make another game
> Only a name an a vague concept announced
> Game is like five years out at this point
> Already missing deadlines
> Already over budget
> Tweet every day how you're chilling around and watching movies and invite Hollywood celebrities and indie musicians to your studio
> Never got told "no" by anyone for two decades, be completely flummoxed when Sony is tired of your shit and pulls the plug
> Get in bed with Xbox who is on an unbelievable studio/game ultra kill spree
> Lose access to Decima engine
> Have to start all over again

There is some fault with Kojima too.
We can't just blame Sony for this.

Kojima could have been like "I know this is gonna cost alot more, than expected, and take longer to release... I'm in rut here... How about I give you guys full exclusivity so you get something for the 100's of millions extra your giving me?"
Sony might have been like "okay, even if this ends up costing like 500m, its fine as long as it is great and exclusive"

The thing is Kojima didn't want to do that.
So now, xbox is gonna fund the remake of this game somewhere down the line.
For timed exclusivity as well, I guess? otherwise why not just say "okay" to being exclusive to playstation?

Greed (by both Kojima and Sony) and poor planning / deadlines and ballooning costs.

This is what happens.
