In retrospect, Harry Reid did the country a bad disservice by invoking the nuclear option for judicial confirmations. He did so in order to get open judgeships filled that Senate Republicans were stonewalling. It didn't help when Antonin Scalia died and a Supreme Court seat opened up. McConnell simply refused to hold any hearings on any Obama judicial appointments on the grounds that the winner of the 2016 elections should get to pick his replacement, and then they easily rammed through Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney-Barrett, the latter just weeks before the 2020 elections. 

The filibuster is one of the few legislative tools left for Democrats to oppose some of the more onerous legislation.

The problem with that is Obama just rolled over like a dog and took it. He should have taken drastic action to ensure Garland got a vote. Even if that meant vetoing all legislation that came past his desk, including the national budget. 

Just let the onerous legislation pass without a filibuster to block it. Americans will have to live with the consequences of their votes. Then after suffering they can wake up and be sure never to vote for idiots again. Instead we just wait and wait and wait for the whole country to collapse. Eventually everything Trump has done to ruin America will come home to roost. And by then gen Alpha will be of voting age but too stupid to know what a good country looks like. And then we have an Idiocracy.
