In 2020 republicans won 11/53 seats, roughly 20%. In line with 25.
In 2022 it was 12/52 about 23%.
In 2018 it was 14/53, roughly 25%. Same for 2016.
In 2024 house elections, there were I believe six districts democrats won by less than 5 % including one they won by less than 3 and two which were decided by less than 1%. If Republicans had won 3 of those theyd have been at 23%. If they could have won 4, they would have hit 25%. Clearly winning around 25% was well within the realm of possibity.
The point of a fair map is not to ensure that representation is directly proportionate to registration. If that was the goal, we could just allocate seats according to party registration. The goal is, or at least should be, that the maps allow the opportunity for that to happen. Republicans had in 3 of the last four elections had representation within 5% of party registration. In 2024, they very clearly had that opportunity, but lost a few very close races. Clearly not gerrymandered maps.
