Nvidia did do a bad job at revealing it so they deserve some blame for sure but the complete lack of nuance and intense outrage from so many people to the extent that Digital Foundry got death threats due to being excited over the future of real time rendering makes this one of the dumbest gamer moral panics I've ever seen. Genuinely a perfect example of a lot of people reacting negatively to something just cause AI is involved instead if judging it on its actual merits. |
While those examples are much more timid to what was previously shown, and what I expect how actual devs will use DLSS 5, they bring to spotlight another problem - instead of going to your engine and doing work that will make your vision come through, you're relying on vendor specific solution (that is very resource intensive) locked to certain GPUs to do it for you (though I have no doubt eventually their will be industry standard for it). |
I'm not worried about that since eventually developers will be able to train their own models tailored specifically to their games. This stuff won't remain vendor locked for that long.

That looks like an example of someone intentionally making it look fucked up like the one Kyuu posted. Look at the examples I've posted for reasonable implementations of it.
