Coming in 2027 to Switch and Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox XS, Steam, and GOG.
For those not familiar, Terranigma was a latecomer Action RPG to the SNES, the sequel to ActRaiser, Soul Blazer, and Illusion of Time. It has one of the most unique stories, not having a tremendous amount of dialogue in the first half of the game instead opting for a mainly visual delivery. The world starts dead, the player's goal is the world's rebirth... the trailer looks at mainly the first half, which focuses on a replacement situation for life (instead of geology and evolution, it's like resurrecting the continents, plants, then the birds, resurrecting the mammals, and such). The second part begins once humanity and civilization emerge. The hero plays a role in its rise through the ages to the modern era. But like all great RPGs, not all is as it seems, there are conspiracies to uncover, tyrants to take down. The stakes rise considerably in the human civilization portion...
As a note, there are towns that have upgrades (similar to the settlement in North America in Dragon Quest 3)... but it's not just one, but several, with story and such that unlocks is quite a bit more in volume than what happened in DQ3. The game also sports some of the best music of its time.
It is, in my opinion, one of the most remarkable games of the 1990s. Much like other late gen SNES RPGs, holds up quite well today.
Personally speaking, that ticks off another game on my "Games I want to see on Switch/modern consoles" list; Xenogears and Chrono Trigger are probably the only two I had above it. Was anyone else really looking forward to seeing this one?
