Getting control of the Senate will take some effort. Not only can the Republicans not flip any current Dem seats (the Republicans are going all out in Michigan) but Dems need to make inroads into currently red seats like North Carolina, Maine, Alaska, Texas, and Ohio (the Republicans are spending hundreds of millions in Texas). Any calculus of Democratic control will also need to be made without John Fetterman. If the Dems take a 51-seat majority (including Fetterman), he will revel in his status as a spoiler, much like Sinema and Manchin before him, and effectively knock the Dems down to 50/50, in which case Vance becomes the tiebreaker.
And just control of the Senate is not enough, either. It takes 67 Senators to actually convict and remove someone from office in an impeachment trial (which was a grave mistake on the part of the founders, it should never have been more than 60 percent at the most, but that's what we're working with). There is no scenario other than abolishing opposition parties and establishing one-pary rule, where either party will ever hold 67 seats, which is why Presidents get away with everythiing. At this point, American presidents are more untouchable than any crowned head in Europe or Asia over the past three centuries because of the elaborate impeachment process required. Remember how South Korea almost turned into a fascist dictatorship just a couple of years ago, because there wasn't enough opposition through official channels to oust their then-president?
And while the 25th Amendment theoretically allows the modern day equivalent of the Praetorian Guard to oust an "unfit" president, the entire South would literally be on fire from the Ohio River to the Gulf of Mexico if Vance and the Cabinet touched one fake hair on the toupee covering Trump's scaly head.
