I think this is a global trend, even in democratic countries. Even here in Europe, the trend is towards restrictions and age verifications, and I don't think that can generally be attributed to a desire for dictatorship over here. That said, such restrictions are a major enabler of undemocratic governments, even if that's not the intention, so I don't really support them. I think actions need to be taken to address the issues with social media, but we're again taking the easy route even with its issues becuse it looks effective instead of trying to find more balanced solutions.
