I think Gen 6 was the biggest jump, but the progress within the generation wasn't as significant as the top 4. Especially if we're comparing early games of a console vs late games of the same console.

Yeah Gen 6 while an insane leap over Gen 5 did peak more quickly; there was some progression, but say Gamecube launch title Rogue Squadron II remained one of the best looking games of the gen by the end of the gen.

You still get some crazy late gen stuff like RE4, Conker Live and Reloaded, God of War 2, etc, but there was the sense that the 6th gen consoles were firing on all cylinders from day 1, where say Gen 7 took a long time for the graphics to peak.
