Who is your favourite director, why, and what do you consider their magnum opus?

[Tober]

Not the best, but I have a soft spot for Paul Verhoeven. Never boring, often provocative. My faves in order:

1) Starschip Troopers
2) Zwartboek (Dutch movie)
3) Basic Instinct
4) Robocob
5) Total Recall
6) Turks Fruit (Dutch movie)
7) Showgirls
