They'll have to solve DRM & console piracy to do this, which even with Denuvo & decent closed platform security they haven't. At best they've only had DRM for a few months before a crack is achieved, and Denuvo is extremely expensive to publishers which is why they opt out of it after that initial period, usually.

The only way I can see a leasing model succeeding is if everything goes to game-streaming and local gaming is no longer a thing. 

AI goes both ways too. It can be used to find exploits just as easily, if not more easily, than it can be used to patch them.

It will no doubt be used for more harm than good, just like now.

Publishers who don't let you play a game for a one time payment are fucking idiots.
