I don't remember what the problem is, but it can happen if you don't turn on the console every like 5 years or something, so you done good on turning it on.
My Wii U still sits close to the TV, getting hooked up from time to time for the few exclusives it still has. Last time I gave another spin to Star Fox Zero while I was waiting for the new game to drop.
