I eventually checked a video and cheesed it by doing bot jump, self-damage in the water to skip the first half.

As I said I did not look anything up, but I also circumvented the entire arena. My solution was as follows:

Go to the bottom of the tower where the turret is, bot hop then in the air bomb jump and then flywire myself to the platform next to the turret and splat it

It took me a few tries to just beat it normally. It's difficult but it's really not that hard.
