Skyward Sword does has my favorite Zelda story (way better than BotW) and some of the best Dungeons. Some neat game play surprises like the time stone mechanics. Overall Music is great.
Compared to BotW, this Zelda game has a traditional progression system of Link getting more gadgets and abilities the further you progress. Some are truly wacky. Usually you need those to unlock new areas or defeat certain bosses. (lock and key structure)
Combat is more of a puzzle in a sense. You do have a parry system, but there is no flurry rush (like BotW). Sword movement is by either motion controls or right analog stick, so you swing the sword where you see an opening of attack. (left/right/up/down/diagonally/stab)
Some of the movement can feel awkward due to being designed for motion control (like flying or swimming).
Originally made for the Wii, which did only have 1 analog stick, the game is not designed for traditional right analog stick camera control (in the Switch version you can by pressing an additional button). This is recognizable in some of the world (level) layout that is designed in the player moving forward (corridor like) except some hub areas.
