Prime 4 is a good game in general. Pretty much everything that was Retro Studio's doing is great. But Tanabe really fucked everything up by forcing the whole open world thing and salvaging the basic structure of what Bandai Namco previously made. If they had let Retro made their own vision of Metroid Prime 4 with no outside interference, things would have gone much different. As is, Metroid Prime 4 is just a good game but far from the other 3 Prime games and even worse overall than Other M. At least Other M had a focused vision to follow, even if the game had its flaws. Other M was consistent: Prime 4 not.
I will always use the same analogy for Prime 4: the game feels like a high school group project in which each student made its own part without comunicating with the others and then they mixed it all up in the end. The result is a project that is technically correct, but it lacks cohesion and it shows mistakes from every student involved.
