It's smart on one hand - at least it theorically allows them to expand their market, and/or differentiat themselves more from the PS3.
On the other it's selling out - It's blantantly abandoning the original direction they were going by ripping the Wii's motion controls. Game support will be spotty since it's a peripheral and only a small % of owners will have it plus they have a huge library of games that'll never support it.
Worse it may give the 360 an image problem. Up to now people knew exactly who the system was aimed at. Now a core gamer might think the PS3 is 'more core' and casual will likely still think 360 is 'too core'.
