There's a lot to respond to (that's a good thing), so I'll start with one chunk. I would argue that, contrary to your thesis, the DS has done more for hardcore gaming than the PSP has.

It's offered us novel ways to play games, letting us do things that simply aren't possible on any other system. TWEWY, Ninja Gaiden Sword, Elite Beat Agents: these are all "hardcore" (hate that term) games that couldn't be done anywhere else. Look at it this way: do you want a Portable PS2, or do you want a system where fresh ideas can thrive?

This ties in to the Wii. The system is new. It can do things no other console ever could. And with time, developers will take advantage of that. Remember, 3rd party DS games didn't get good until about two years after its release, as developers had to wrap their heads around the system. The Wii will be the same. True, neither system can offer you the visuals that their rivals can, but gaming is far, far more than just pretty visuals.

True, but you must consider something; DS takes a step forward over GBA with vastly superior visuals, new buttons, AND adds a second screen and a touch screen. I view the Wii as a sidestep Nintendo had to take to dodge being marginalized... so while it was important for surival, this step sideways doesn't really offer anything superior to GC, just different. GC controls are taken away and are replace with simplified Wii Remote and Nunchuk, BUT motion controls are added. Unlike DS, this is but, not and. Also, graphics are better, but nothing incredilbe like GBA to DS; its more like the jump between GC and Xbox.

So will the Wii really be the same? Many great DS games offer button pressing for parts of games and stlus conrol for other parts. I doubt Wii games will ever have us plauggin in our GC/classic controllers for segments of the game that work better traditional controls. The tradiitonal controls the Wii Remote and nunchuk offer are gimped.

I just thought that was an odd statement being that the Gamecube and XBox were very similar in real world performance, and if you listed the top 10 most visually and technically impressive games of the last generation they both would have quite a few titles on that list. The Wii is a noticeable improvement over the Gamecube, the problem at the moment is the technical capabilities of the Wii are being treated like the attractive girl at a gay resort.

Allow me to clarify. I meant that the graphical difference between Xbox and GC is roughly (as far as I can see) the same ammount of graphical difference between the Xbox and the Wii. I am not saying Xbox=Wii.
