In id's case this is no huge loss: they're a mere shadow of what they used to be anyway, and they've been reduced to a Doom studio a long time ago now. Maybe they were working on something else that was lost due to the shift on focus and the layoffs, and if so, that saddens me, but based on what we know of id's work in the last decade or probably even more, it's not work someone else couldn't have done as well.

And once more, we're seeing how disastrous these major buyouts turned out. I have fond memories of people claiming it would benefit the industry. This is so sad, ID Software is more than just an old-dog studio; they're one of the last remaining bastions of properly optimized graphics engines and balls-to-the-walls gameplay design.

Well, this is probably great for profitability and hence the industry, so... yay? Not the outcome I wanted myself, obviously...
