Claude was learning to fly and was in the plane with his flight instructor at the time, on the way to an airshow he was supposed to be in. The plane was on approach of an airfield but descended too quickly, crashing in a field before the runway, killing both on impact.
The 5 Guillemot brothers, Claude, Yves, Michel, Christian, and Gerard, co-founded Ubisoft together in 1986. Claude was no longer involved with the operations of Ubisoft, only his younger brother Yves, but was chairman of the Guillemot Corporation at the time of his death.
