After years of swearing to buy physical, I've lately decided to change my tune on digital. A lot of it comes from the fact that I know I will never sell my games in my lifetime. But the other is the reality that some games are absolutely worthless to have in physical form.
A game like Splatoon 2, where most of its value requires online play, is pointless to have anything but a digital version. You will never recoup the cost of such a heavy online game, and you can never 'own' it because most of its value is in something you cannot own. (You cannot own people and force them to play Splatoon.)
Other games have crazy amounts of DLC you need to download. No point in owning a game where half of its content needs to be bought. Like say...Street Fighter 6, which I bought digitally. Until Capcom releases a Complete Physical version, just buy digital.
So, from my point of view, I will buy physical games whose value lies largely offline and in the cartridge. RPGs and most 1st party Nintendo games are practically mandatory in physical form for me.
As for buying both physical and digital versions solution...well not everyone can afford it
