That is someting that I'm sure the industry would love to happen, because you'd need to replace the whole thing everytime you upgrade, and that means more business for all (or most) of them.

I doubt it will ever replace classic PC model, but when you think of it, lot of people are willing to buy a console and replace it after 7-8 years, so I think there is potential for such market to grow. You loose on upgradeability, but save some (not insignificant) amount of money - in addition, I can envision such SoCs getting precompiled shaders from developers due to their fixed nature, just like consoles.
