Yeah, that Helix. It's cost was (is) projected to be far from premium high-end PC, which are currently in ~$1900+ range. Due to unified memory pool such APU/SoC based PC should cost $300 less than equivalent standard PC. You loose upgradeability, but you save some money.

We still doin't know how much the console will cost and how it will compare to the hardware available once it launches. With that said, consoles have been more affordable than comparable PCs since the PS4/XOne, so it won't be a surprise if it's the same thing with the next ones.

One thing will be interesting, tho, and that's online play. MSoft makes a lot of money from Xbox Live subscriptions to let that go, so I wonder how they'll implement it on Helix, since it's also supposed to be a PC. Will you be able to install and play your Steam games online for free, or will you have to pay for Live to do so on the console? Because they sure as a hell won't sell a machine at break even or a loss just for PC players to buy it as a substitute of a gaming PC and save money.

Sure, consoles always have been more affordable, but that's usually due to some sort of subsidizing from platform holder. What I'm saying is that APU+soldered unified RAM is significantly cheaper than equivalently performing CPU+GPU+RAM, and that we might see that market gaining traction in coming years due to high memory prices.
