Horrible analogy but, I could see them trying to run a Coke and New Coke flavor concurrently, especially with the longer Dev cycles.  Appease the fans of the classic flavor (formula) with the OOT engine / formula and cater to the millions of new fans they captured with the current BotW / TotK formula.  After the series grew with the last 2 entries I can't see them pulling too far away from it.  This would also allow them, in theory, to put out a new Zelda every 4 years or so with up to 8 year dev cycles for each flavor.

nintendo isnt going to stick with the same art style for zelda indefinitely. i expect this art style that was used for botw and totk to be put to rest, just based on their history. but who knows. this last pair of zeldas sold like 50 million units or something? maybe thatll change their minds.

I don't think you are wrong. When I was saying flavor / formula I am not talking art style, I am talking about game style.  So the newer open world approach of BotW / TotK vs the majority of the the Zelda's that came before with the exception of the original.

It is not unheard of for them to use the same game engine in back to back titles though so you may get 2 entries in a row with the same or similar art styles and assets.
