Unless the RAM and storage issues get any better I don't see how they can lower prices without taking a big hit. If they say lose an extra $100 per console sold that is $100 million for every 1 million consoles sold. I do agree with what she is saying. Console prices do need to come down and next gen Xbox can't just be one premium console that costs over $1,000. They need a more entry level console that is $500/$600. Even if that is barely more powerful than the Series X. Look at Nintendo. The Wii was essentially a GameCube powerwise and the Switch a Wii U powerwise. Obviously the Wii added waggle and the Switch a hybrid. Edit: Sharma in the same interview "We will have to empower customers to have very flexible storage offerings." I wonder if we will get a 512GB Series X digital, so there is a cheaper SKU available. That would bring the price from $600 to likely $550. |
Nintendo was ahead of the curve 20 years before everyone lol.
Even then, Nintendo isn't immune to market conditions with Switch 2 now costing as much as PS5/Series X did at launch. So it's hard to imagine Asha having much wiggle room.
I imagine we'll see the return of Xbox All Access or even a rental program for Series consoles. Something I believe Sony has started in the UK. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a dedicated cloud streaming device, which I believe was previously cancelled.
