As far as sales go, PS2 sold more and had a far greater marketshare, so that's an easy win for Sony. As for library, it also had an objectively stronger third-party lineup, so I would give it the nod there too. Obviously for first-party games, it's hard to pick against Nintendo but that's subjective so, I'll leave that one alone.

Overall, I think the winner should be the PS2. I was a college-aged adult at the time, and for people my age, other than maybe a biased Nintendo fan, it would be incredibly difficult to justify arguing against the PS2 in this debate. The only dedicated console in history that can best its dominance (market-share; cross-over awareness;pop-culture identity etc.) was the NES. That's how huge it was. There was simply no other console that gen as far as the average consumer went. You either had a PS2 or you didn't have a game console. It was the alpha and omega. The true king.
