I'm not sure I'd call it a "major current-gen tomb raider" it's a remake that fills the gap while they bring the next major mainline title in catalyst. That may very well come to Switch 2 as well though.

They are charging almost full price for it though. ($60)

I love the reboot trilogy but can't get into the original title when I tried it on both emulators and with the definitive remake recently. But this looks to completely change the gameplay so I may check it out.

Reboot trilogy is pretty much TR in name only, it has nothing to do with actual TR - not bad games per se (actually, I find 2013 Reboot to be one of the best TPP cover shooters), just not true to the spirit of TR.

Original Core Design games can be rough for people who haven't played them back in days, due to how they control. Yet they remain the best for their great exploration and puzzling. TR1 (or maybe TR1 and TR2) was one of the games that new game journalists had to play as homework back in peak Gametrailers days when they were hiring new people.

If you haven't played them, Crystal Dynamics' Legend trilogy is something that has modern controls, but keeps the spirit of TR - sure, it losses some of the precision platforming that TR was known for, but exploration and puzzling is close to Core Design games, with Anniversary being pretty descent (though far from  perfect) remake of TR1.
