My bad luck with controllers

very hit or miss for me. the joy cons on the S1 were complete and utter crap, easily the worst. I went through 4 pairs. Dreamcast was quite crap as well, those plastic things broke on the analogs all the time, the plastic around the ball. outside that, never had a controller break.
