Xbox definitely got bashed the most in 2013 and 2017-2025, though in 2014-2016 and 2025 to present Nintendo also got a ton of flack for first the Wii U's numerous failings, and then the internet's weird obsession with hating on Switch 2.

I think the Switch 2 hate is greatly inflated honestly.

There's been misinformation early during it's launch period but that was just down to poor communication on topics like cartridges etc. No different from this. Or other situations like PS5s back compatible uncertainty at launch. When a question mark is put on something, people assume the worst.

A lot of chronically online portion of gamers aren't excited by it's current lineup (fair) so there's disappointment there and that's reflected in attitudes about the system. I haven't noticed much "hate" personally but I have noticed some high sensitivity from Nintendo fans, even in this thread assuming a victim mentality.

When Switch 2 sales dipped below expectations (which they did), there came a doom train where people used it validate their feelings of disappointment, and honestly that weak holiday reflected a reality of middling interest from some of Nintendo's key demograohics but concern there is squashed with software like Pokopia bringing sales back in line with expectations.

Of course plenty are still waiting for their more "core" games and I think is another issue with Nintendo in popular game spaces, they're dealing with expectations from people who are only a small part of their actual target market comparative to Sony/MS.

Some portion of the web will always be complaining about something tbh. I just think Nintendo was just at the center of attention with S2 being new and also relatively conservative with what they showed off for the system/hype.

Things have settled in recent months as folks got bored and moved on to the next manufactured outrage fad, but the lead up to and months following launch was the most relentless campaign of FUD and hate I've ever seen against a console, as someone who's been gaming since the 90s.

That's partly cos the modern grifter/ragebait economy didn't exist back when say PS3 or Xbox One faceplanted in prior generations, but still, while it's more than fair to be critical of Switch 2, the hate train we saw last year was way out of proportion with anything rational.

That's not being over-sensitive or a victim, (if that was directed at me) any more than it would be to say point out the hate against Sony in 2006 or MS in 2013.

To bring things back to Sony and the PS5 though, the flack they're getting now isn't anything new, it's just their turn in the spotlight due to the recent price hikes.
