Awakening saved the series. If it didn't sell above 250,000 units, Nintendo was reportedly going to retire Fire Emblem.
It ended up selling ~2m units. Every Fire Emblem since has sold at least 1m with Three Houses selling ~5m. pic.twitter.com/yygWDTEuNp
