Overhyped: Myst
When I was a teenager, a lot of adults in my life were playing this game, and even mainstream media outlets were hyping it to the moon as "video games are growing up." didn't really get what this game had over the likes of Zelda or Final Fantasy. Even the story is just as hackneyed and nonsensical as most "kids' games." This criticism could honestly extend to almost the entire mid-90s genre of "interactive movies." They were basically Sierra/LucasArts adventures with grainy live-action FMV (and Sierra even released its own entry into this market, Phantasmagoria.)
