2 is the best from the OGs because of some reasons, Leon and Ada, having 2 campaigns that can be played in both ways and will leave some influence once you change routes midway. But 3 is not far behind, it's pretty much as good and also have Nemesis. Funny that both on 2 and 3, specially 3 with Nemesis, which I love and is present during the whole game, I had no problem with being followed around, but I haven't played 7 and decided to watch it because it looks absolutely horrible to be followed around in that house, not scary, just really bad for exploration which I absolutely love, when you can hardly fight back, it feels like Outlast and not Resident Evil. I know it's also present on 8 but to a lesser extent and feel like I'll like 8 quite a lot based on the little I know about it tho. I like 5 even a I don't consider it much of a Resident Evil game either. 6 is half decent and half meh, I like the Leon and Ada campaigns but don't like Chris or Jake ones much at all. All in all, except from 7 I think all games are worth checking out, with 4, 2 and 3 being really found to me. |
I recommend giving 7 a chance. Once you escape the opening section, things open up considerably. And while there are zones where a member of the Baker family will stalk you if you enter their sphere of influence, there are plenty of areas where you can explore more freely.
Personally, I like that the horror in 7 is so suffocating and intimate, but I totally appreciate your perspective. I think if you can power through those cat-and-mouse sequences, the game is absolutely worth playing. It’s one of the most disturbing, atmospheric, surprising games in the entire canon. Also, the narrative payoffs in 8 are more powerful if you’ve played 7.
