Few months ago, RAM cost a lot less than it does now. Not excusing it but they aren't immune to that rise either. There is only so much absorbing the cost they can do when RAM makers are no longer prioritising consumer products.

But that doesn´t magically remove all potential component cost increases. 
You may be able to subsidize X amount.
But if components rise by more than X, then end price will still rise even if by X less than it would.
(assuming that you are subsidizing console cost by X from service revenue)

In any case, this idea that Sony is being greedy here is absurd and depends on not understanding the business.
Sony already wanted to maximize revenue and profits. They do they by selling lots of consoles.
The increased cost here is not going to Sony profits, but to component suppliers.
Increasing console costs reduces console sales, which then translates to less software and service profits.
