Nintendo - Captain Rainbow - View Post

Games don't have to appeal to *everyone*. This looks like a lot of fun, and its definitely got the tongues wagging - so I'd say its a success in those terms already.

I have a *heap* of gay friends, and I'm sure they would welcome a game like this. Not that you have to be gay to enjoy it (or that not being gay precludes someone from enjoying it).

It took a few years for people to "get over it", but gay themes (and general campness) finally made it into the mainstream TV/movie media - and its now accepted. I haven't seen the same thing happen to the games industry yet.

(I can *just* imagine TV ads for this game...! :>)

I just hope the gfx get an improvement, some of those models looked extremely low-poly - hence the DS or WiiWare suspicion.

While this is hands down the "gayest" game Nintendo has ever had its hand in, it in no way appeals to the GLBT crowd so far. Just having pretty rainbows will cause a lot of people to instantly associate it with the gay crowd, but not draw in the gay crowd on its own (unless it is outside a bar). I haven't seen the trailer yet so maybe it does have stronger gay friendly themes than I know about.

That aside I am really excited about this game. I loved Viewtiful Joe for all the same reasons. The use of third string Nintendo characters really cracks me up to boot. This game has succesfully combined my favortie elements from two different Capcom series. (Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo's pretty colors and use of a super obscure character with Viewtiful Joes wacky plot and main character idea.)
