Funny , we were just having a discussion today on the "X-mote" or "Newton" and proved that Nintendo's hold on specific patents pretty much kill the possibility without MS in a lot of legal trouble.

On the note of the patent mentioned in this article, remember, some patents are defensive - in other words, to prevent such a device ever from existing. It looks like a cross between a Wiimote and a sixaxis, meaning that the Wiimote would slide into that central chamber.
