So a new dictator that still suppresses the people but is friendly with the US? That's what the Shah of Persia/Iran was. And the dictators of Iraq after Saddam have been friendly with the US. The US supports most of the world's dictatorships even before Trump entered politics. I wonder if the US and Israel will reinstall the Iranian royal family. |
The Pahlavis live in the U.S. now, and they still act like Iran is their personal property, which is part of what got them ousted twice after WWII.
The former shah's son, Reza, is even offering to be a "transitional leader."
Fun fact The U.S. actually armed Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq War. In order to maintain a balance of power, they also armed the Iranians, which was well-known among the Iranian people, and apparently they were suprised at the furor over the Iran-Contra scandal.
