My understanding is the decompile to understand the code, then rewrite using PC language so the game runs native on PC. I just played Banjo and it run incredibly well, got 120 fps at 4k. Mario Kart 64 has some impressive texture packs and runs great too. Star Fox 64, again 4k at 120 fps. Majora's texture pack in particular is absurd compared to the original. Really cool work going on. |
That's actually pretty cool (and also pretty boring, I guess, because decompilation is an ancient thing as far as I know). I wonder how it's handling the N64-specific stuff there must be that can't be directly translated to generic C code... Surely the N64 has some of that too.
