I played Red Alert on PS1 as a kid, because it took a while for us to get a proper gaming-capable PC, and I got Red Alert before that. I mostly enjoyed building my base and then overwhelming the enemy once I was done, and it worked just fine for that. In hindsight, it's definitely not an ideal platform for the game, but back then, I had a ton of fun with it. I think I vaguely recall it feeling a bit clumsy even then, but like I said, it wasn't really a problem.
