You're telling me an arena shooter with continuous free updates, no microtransactions, underpowered graphics, gyro controls (that put mouse aiming to shame) and inventive game mechanics was going to bomb? Are you Bobby Kotick by chance? 

That was the general opinion back in 2014/2015, yes.

Most people predicted it would flop due to being a shooter on a Nintendo platform, being a new IP, etc.

I never thought so personally, but most did.
