We don't have a sales breakdown of what FF7 Remake (PS4) sold in each region; my understanding is that it was estimated at about 1 mil in Japan with the original PS4 version. Despite great figures and quite possibily the biggest PS4 game in Japan, 1 mil is still a huge decline for a series that used to sell at least 2.5 to 3 mil in Japan alone.
I think we can agree Final Fantasy is part of a legacy series in Japan where everyone who wanted to play the game bought it within the first few weeks of its release. So the Nintendo Switch 2 opens up an entirely new generation of fans for the franchise. I think it will be a slow burner and if the combined physical and digital sales are close to 100k, then it will have the potential to do really well in its home market.
For Square Enix I think this has been a stroke of very good luck where they have a short space of time between the release of titles. So where as Playstation fans had to wait 4 years for the sequel and another 3 to 4 years for the conclusion the players on Xbox and Nintendo don't have to wait that long. That could be great for the growth of sales.
