Not worth it compared to getting pre-owned I mean, not talking about Switch 2. Pre-owned switch prices have dropped like a rock while new has stayed the same. Like I said you can get a used OLED for less than a new lite, or a used lite for less than half the price of a new one. Unless for some reason you have to have new, at the cost of paying double, buying a brand new switch 1 isn't worth it. Used market is massively cheaper in 2026. |
I can definitely confirm this. I paid £62 for a perfect as new boxed yellow Japanese Switch Lite with PSU and about £100 for a tatty OLED Switch but perfect working order and clean screen. A previous Switch I paid £130 for and was bundled with 2 games, spare set of joycons and other accessory bits and pieces. I sold on the games and spare joycons and it worked out about £70-80. All of these were from ebay at different times and all auctions. I did buy a Switch Lite before from ebay that worked out at £59 but it had to go back as wasn't reading cartridges. I often think the cheapest way to buy many things including Switch is buy a bundle and then sell on the bits you don't want.
I often go into CEX and at the time I bought my Switch Lite I noticed they were selling them for £99.99 at the time which I think was the cheapest in the cabinet. However I should add CEX offer a 5 year warranty on their products, far longer than a new product, basically they put a margin on the product that allows them to offer such a warranty which gives real piece of mind. So £99 is actually a very decent price with that in mind. I don't get much of a warranty with my ebay purchases to say the least. Maybe 3 months if I'm lucky.
I don't see the value of new to be honest, as soon as you take it out the box its second-hand. I would never buy anything for myself that was new if I could save a lot of money buying second-hand. I also try to get the best price so if I later sell that item I might make a small profit on occasion or make no loss at all.
