Yes, because Larry Ellison is a loyal yes-man multi-billionaire.
Look at CBS, which is owned by by the Ellisons and managed by Bari Weiss. Walter Cronkite would be disgusted with CBS today. Tony Dokoupil has basically turned the CBS Evening News into the "Jaywalking" segments on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. 60 Minutes is nothing but puff pieces. Bari Weiss spiked the expose on the CECOT prison in El Salvador just hours before it was to air, then went on a copyright-strike rampage on YouTube before it finally ended up on the Internet Archive. They want to put Weiss in charge of CNN, which is part of WBD. The Skydance acquisition of Paramount went through rapidly once Ellison agreed to fire Stephen Colbert.
As far as WB, they probably want DC Comics more than anything, and that's so they can turn the Justice League into MAGA propaganda, without being hit by C&Ds, though that didn't stop them from doing appalling things with Franklin the Turtle - a children's book series meant to teach about kindness and inclusivity - and laughing at the author of those books when she protested. Superman would basically act like Homelander. Batman would be terrorizing poor neighborhoods in Gotham City and dragging people to ICE detention facilities. Aquaman blowing up fishing boats - I mean, drug boats. Wonder Woman would either be Erika Kirk or a tradwife. Harry Potter also comes with the deal, and Rowling's leanings aside, MAGA politics are likely to infect the Wizarding World. A Barbie movie under the MAGA? Sydney Sweeney as Tradwife Barbie, LOL.
Fun fact: game publisher Annapurna Interactive, publisher of games like Stray, Outer Wilds, and Kentucky Route Zero, is owned by Megan Ellison, the daughter of Larry and sister of David.
Netflix only wants the movie studios, not CNN, so they could probably make an easy deal for just CNN if they wanted. That's part of why Netflix is offering less cash, though its funding is far more secure than Paramount's, which will also include money from a rather tapped-out Saudi Arabia and used to include funding from Tencent before people cried foul about a Chinese mega-conglomerate buying a stake in an American media company. Ellison tried to guarantee the sale out of his own personal fortune but got rebuffed there, so now he's suing WB. But it's clear that they want WB to produce MAGA movies.
