Their appeal is basically that they are pure popcorn escapism; beautiful visuals, over the top action, a simple straightforward story, just check your brain at the door and spend 3 hours or so in another world where you can forget all about the complexities and problems of the real world.

3 hours sounds like a long time. Why does it have to be 3 hours

To me, 3 hours isn't that long. When I watched The Way of Water and Fire & Ash, they were so immersive that they didn't feel that long to me.
